Measure CSAT on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is often the channel where your customers talk to you most, and the one where you know least about how they felt afterwards. Email support has survey links and help desk ratings. WhatsApp chats usually just stop. Measuring customer satisfaction (CSAT) on WhatsApp fixes that blind spot with one tap from the customer.

TL;DR

  • CSAT on WhatsApp is the share of rated conversations where the customer chose a positive answer.
  • Ask once, when the conversation closes, with three tappable buttons such as Good, Okay and Poor.
  • Send the request inside WhatsApp's 24-hour customer service window; after it, you need an approved template.
  • CSAT = positive ratings ÷ total ratings × 100. Report how many customers rated, not just the score.
  • Break it down by agent, by topic and by bot versus human, and follow up on every Poor rating the same day.

What is CSAT?

Customer satisfaction score (CSAT) measures how satisfied customers were with a specific interaction. You ask one question straight after it, such as "How was your chat with us today?", and count the positive answers. Unlike NPS, which measures loyalty to your business over time, CSAT tells you how one conversation went.

How do you ask for a CSAT rating on WhatsApp?

Ask when the conversation closes. The best moment is when the agent marks the chat resolved, not hours later. The customer still remembers the conversation and the chat is still open on their phone.

Use buttons, not a link. A survey link asks the customer to leave WhatsApp, open a browser and fill in a form. Interactive reply buttons let them answer with one tap without leaving the chat. Three options work well: Good, Okay, Poor. Five-point scales are harder to read on a small screen and the extra precision rarely changes a decision.

Ask one question. If you want a reason, ask a short follow-up only after a Poor rating: "Sorry to hear that. What could we have done better?"

Ask once. One rating request per resolved conversation. A customer who chatted three times this week should not get three surveys on top of three answers.

What WhatsApp rules apply to satisfaction surveys?

WhatsApp Business Platform lets a business send free-form and interactive messages within 24 hours of the customer's last message. A rating request sent when the chat closes falls inside that window, so buttons and plain text both work.

Outside the window, any message must use a template approved by Meta. If you want to ask for feedback days later, for example after a delivery, submit a utility or marketing template for it and send it only to customers who opted in to hear from you. Keep it relevant to the transaction they made.

How do you calculate CSAT on WhatsApp?

CSAT = positive ratings ÷ total ratings × 100

With Good, Okay and Poor, count only Good as positive. Example: 240 customers rated their chats this month, 198 chose Good, 30 chose Okay and 12 chose Poor. CSAT is 198 ÷ 240 × 100 = 82.5%.

Always report the response rate beside it: ratings received ÷ conversations closed. A 95% CSAT from 20 ratings out of 1,000 chats tells you little. Compare WhatsApp with your other channels on the same formula, and use the benchmark in our SLA examples for customer support: 85 to 90% positive ratings is a strong result for a small team.

How do you break CSAT down so it is useful?

A single number hides the cause. Split it four ways:

  • By agent. Shows who needs coaching and whose approach to share with the team.
  • By topic or category. Delivery questions may score far lower than product questions, which points to an operations problem, not a support one.
  • By bot versus human. Compare chats your chatbot resolved with chats handed to an agent. If handoffs score badly, look at the wait after "I want to speak to an agent".
  • By response time. Compare ratings for chats answered within your first response target with those that missed it.

What should you do with Poor ratings?

Treat every Poor rating as an open task, not a statistic:

  1. Alert the team lead the same day.
  2. Read the conversation and score it with your customer support QA scorecard.
  3. Reply to the customer with a fix or an apology from a named person. A recovered customer is often more loyal than one who never had a problem.
  4. Log the cause as a tag so patterns show up in the monthly review.

How does QuiQSol measure CSAT on WhatsApp?

In QuiQ WhatsApp CRM, closing a chat sends your closing message, the ticket reference and Good, Okay or Poor rating buttons, inside the conversation. Ratings are recorded on the conversation, and WhatsApp CRM reports show customer ratings next to reply times, resolution times and agent performance. On tickets, QuiQ Help Desk asks for a one-click Happy, Fair or Poor rating on every resolved ticket, and the customer panel shows each customer's past ratings beside their open deals.

For the longer view, QuiQ Surveys sends NPS, CSAT and CES surveys by email or WhatsApp, and Analytics brings satisfaction together with ticket volume and response times across every channel. See plans and pricing or start a free trial.

Frequently asked questions

How do you measure customer satisfaction on WhatsApp?

Send a one-question rating request with tappable buttons such as Good, Okay and Poor when the agent closes the chat, then calculate CSAT as positive ratings divided by total ratings, multiplied by 100. Report the response rate beside the score.

Can I send a satisfaction survey on WhatsApp after 24 hours?

Only with a message template approved by Meta, sent to a customer who opted in. Within 24 hours of the customer's last message you can send free-form and interactive messages, which is why the best time to ask is when the chat closes.

What is a good CSAT score for WhatsApp support?

85 to 90% positive ratings is a strong benchmark for small support teams. Read it together with the response rate, because a high score from very few ratings is not reliable.

What is the difference between CSAT and NPS?

CSAT measures satisfaction with one interaction, asked straight after it. NPS measures how likely a customer is to recommend your business, asked periodically, and reflects the whole relationship.

Does QuiQSol collect CSAT ratings on WhatsApp automatically?

Yes. When a chat is closed in QuiQ WhatsApp CRM, the customer receives your closing message, the ticket reference and Good, Okay or Poor rating buttons, and the rating is recorded on the conversation and included in WhatsApp CRM reports.
